Advising

A typical schedule includes Math 155 (Calculus), Chemistry 115, English 101, Engineering 101, and one Liberal Studies Program (Cluster) Course. Certain students may be required to start in Math 129 (pre-Calculus), or Math 126 (college Algebra) and Math 128 (Trigonometry) based on their Math ACT/SAT score. Students are also required to take a Chemistry Placement Test to determine whether they should start in the lower level Chemistry 110 course. Not all students will have been placed in English 1 based on the availability of sections. These students will be advised to add another Liberal Studies Program (Cluster) Course to their schedule. This would also apply to students who have already received college credit for English.

The advising session takes place during the morning of the second day. During this time the students will be given the schedule that was generated for them and led through the process of completing or correcting this schedule. Corrections may be necessary if the student has Advanced Placement credits from high school, if the student already has college credit for courses taken at another institution, or if there is a problem with the schedule as generated by Admissions & Records. There are several advisors available and worksheets with detailed instructions are provided to the student to aid in this process. This includes the specific Math placement guidelines, course availability listings, a blank scheduling worksheet, and a list of recommended Liberal Studies Program (Cluster) Courses. Changes in the specific Liberal Studies Program (Cluster) Course are discouraged, as there are not many replacements available at this time.
