- Laureen Belford, BSME '88, is a test and development engineer at Oakley in Foothill Ranch, California. LaureenBelford@SBCGlobal.net.
- Josh Edgar, BSChE, has been promoted to the position of assistant brewmaster at the Cartersville Brewery of Anheuser-Busch. Edgar joined the company in 2002 and has held various positions in quality assurance and brewing in the Columbus and Cartersville breweries. His most recent position was area manager in Cartersville's brewing department.
- Doug Hilemn, BSCE '84, is president of Emerald Construction in Richmond, Virginia, and recently earned his Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification as an Accredited Professional through the U.S. Green Building Council. - David Palmer, BSIE '86, is the CEO of ClearCount Medical Solutions, a Pittsburgh-based company that developed the SmartSponge System to automate the counting and detection of surgical sponges. A tiny radio-frequency identification (RFID) tag inside the sponges allows for easy counting before use, then reconciliation before the surgery's close. - Jim Suttle, BSCE, MSCE, was elected mayor of Omaha, Nebraska, in May. Suttle, a graduate of WVU with bachelor's and master's degrees in civil engineering, is former vice chairman of the Board of Directors for the Omaha-based engineering and design firm HDR, the nation's 17th largest architecture - engineering firm. The company has over 8,000 employees in 140 offices throughout the United States.
- Jack T. Painter, BSCE '50, MSCE '55, was honored by Louisiana Tech University, where he is a professor emeritus of civil engineering, by naming the "Painter Supercomputer" after him. Painter helped bring the LGP-30, Louisiana Tech's first computer, to campus in the 1950s. The Painter Supercomputer is 12.5 billion times faster than the LGP-30.
- Ross Schwietzer, BSPE, was awarded a fellowship through the Research Partnership to Secure Energy for America (RPSEA). Schweitzer works for Devon Energy as a drilling engineer.
