July 6-11, 2014 (Growing Roots in STEM All-female High School Camp)

WVU's Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources will be hosting our second annual, all-female camp for high school students who are interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics fields. The camp will have an engineering focus, but will also demonstrate how a career in engineering can be tied into forensics, pharmaceuticals, beauty product development, design and architecture, etc.

Campers will have the opportunity to meet and work with female faculty members and successful female alumnae on design projects and various competitions.

Female campers will be encouraged to take advantage of the overnight option so they can engage with other campers, build team relationships, and enjoy the company of girls with similar interests while experiencing the college dorm lifestyle.

July 7-11, 2014 (Middle School Exploration Camp)

Are you curious about the final frontiers? Does space pique your interest? Do you wonder how we can explore the depths of the ocean? It sounds like you might be an explorer. Join us as we explore the impact of engineering on solving life's mysteries. We will examine the engineering behind space shuttles, submarines, and technology that keeps humans alive, while allowing campers to participate in hands-on experiments, games, and competitions.

During this day camp, students entering 6th, 7th, and 8th grade will investigate how to launch rockets, how to locate and utilize natural gas deposits deep below earth's surface, and examine the intricacies of the human body as it transfers energy, among other fun activities.

This camp will only have a day option (9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.).

July 13-18, 2014 (Sustainability-Focused High School Camp)

Are you a high school student that wants to help solve energy problems? Do you want to create technologies that are more sustainable? Do you like to think outside of the box to solve problems?

Join us at the Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources from Sunday, July 13 through Friday, July 18 for this year's Engineering Challenge Camp with a focus on Sustainable Energy.

Each day, campers will be tasked with solving engineering related challenges that will encourage them to work hands-on, in teams to use creativity to find unique solutions to real-world problems.

Campers will participate in activities such as creating a solar-powered pizza oven, using human-generated energy to power a blender and a light bulb, creating wind mills and measuring how much energy is produced, creating slow sand filters to purify water, and creating a solar cell.

During the evenings, our overnight campers will participate in fun, team-building activities such as a challenge course, bowling tournament, campus-wide scavenger hunt, and ice cream socials. Overnight campers will have the opportunity to spend the night in actual WVU dormitories.
