Projects of CFC - National Historic Covered Bridge Preservation Research Program

   This project is being conducted by the Constructed Facilities Center of West Virginia University (CFC-WVU) in conjunction with the Institute for the History of Technology and Industrial Archaeology of West Virginia University (IHTIA-WVU).  

    The objective of this research is to develop means and methods to strengthen wooden super structural components of historic covered bridges using advanced composite materials.  The strengthening methods proposed in this research do not violate the Secretary of Interior’s standards for historic preservation.
