1. Summary Statement
Perform engineering tasks required to accomplish projects or keep certain operating functions running smoothly. Major areas which may be assigned could include mine planning, ventilation, equipment specification and selection, surveying.
1(a). Safety Performance Adopts, and follows the GCC Energy Safety Philosophy of achieving an injury-free workplace.
2. Essential Functions
> Develops, implements and monitors safety action plans, pre-work examination, safety evaluation processes, and internal safety monitoring processes to meet Skyline's safety objectives.
> Receive and fully comprehend assignments given by Coal Services Manager in different areas of expertise.
> Gather information and input from other departments necessary to solve problems.
> Prepare recommended solutions or paths to follow and present in a manner that problem, objective and recommended action plan are clearly understood and can be implemented.
> Follow up to ensure that plan is solving the problem as required and that expected results are being achieved.
> Implement changes as needed to ensure project objectives are achieved.
> Develops, implements and monitors cost reduction plans, productivity improvements, etc.
> Develops, implements and monitors MSHA mining plans and amendments.
> Develops mining projections, exploration plans, mine maps, coal analysis, environmental plans, permits, reserve analysis, royalty calculations and lease modifications.
2(b). Other Functions
> Support company policies and decisions throughout the workforce.
> Bring potential problems to the attention of management so they can be addressed.
> Works with other members of management and the workforce in maintaining a union-free operation. Actively supports and defends company viewpoint.
3. Qualifications
> B.S. Mining Engineering
> CO State underground and surface foreman papers a plus.
> Experience in underground coal mining a plus.
> Effective written and verbal communication skills.
> Proficient in use of Excel and Word and Power Point.
> E.I.T. Certification a plus.
> Proficient in use of AutoCAD and other mapping, surveying, contouring & mine planning software.
4. Supervision Received/Supervision Exercised:
> Receives work instructions from Coal Services Manager.
> May receive work instructions from other department heads, coordinators, or general manager.
> May supervise surveying/drafting personnel.
> May, from time to time, directly supervise an operational crew.
> May directly oversee performance of contractor personnel.
5. Scope
> Mine produces 1mm tons per year.
> Must maintain excellent working relationship with coordinator and front-line supervisors, department heads, general manager, and corporate personnel.
> May interface with different regulatory agencies, purchasing personnel.
> May interface with similar personnel at other mines.
