His presentation will begin at 10 a.m. in Room 209 of the Mineral Resources Building on the Evansdale Campus. "The ability to grow a variety of semiconductor, oxide and other inorganic materials in the form of nanowires with controlled properties and vertical orientation provides a competitive avenue for applications in logic, memory, data storage, sensors and others," said Meyyappan. "This presentation will discuss in detail the growth of these nanowires using a vapor-liquid-solid approach, material characterization and application development. In addition, it will provide an overview of carbon nanotube-based chemical and biosensors, covering CNT preparation, sensor fabrication and sensor performance." Until June 2006, Meyyappan was the director of the Center for Nanotechnology as well as senior scientist. He holds an adjunct professor position at the Arizona State University. He is a founding member of the Interagency Working Group on Nanotechnology established by the Office of Science and Technology Policy. Meyyappan is a fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, AVS, the Electrochemical Society, and the California Council of Science and Technology. In addition, he is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Materials Research Society, and American Institute of Chemical Engineers. He has been the IEEE Distinguished Lecturer on Nanotechnology and ASME's Distinguished Lecturer on Nanotechnology. He has served as the president of the IEEE's Nanotechnology Council. For his contributions and leadership in nanotechnology, he has received numerous awards including: a Presidential Meritorious Award; NASA's Outstanding Leadership Medal; Arthur Flemming Award given by the Arthur Flemming Foundation and the George Washington University; 2008 IEEE Judith Resnick Award; IEEE-USA Harry Diamond Award. For his educational contributions, he has received: Outstanding Recognition Award from the NASA Office of Education; the Engineer of the Year Award by the San Francisco Section of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics; IEEE-EDS Education Award. Dr. Meyyappan has authored or co-authored over 175 articles in peer-reviewed publications and given more than 200 talks and presentations on nanotechnology subjects across the world. 04/17/2008 |
