The College of Engineering and Mineral Resources would like to welcome the following new faculty members who are joining us this fall.




Robin Farmer, PhD

Assistant Professor
Chemical Engineering

Education:
B.S., Materials Science and Engineering, Virginia Tech, 2001
M.S., Materials Science and Engineering, Virginia Tech, 2001
Ph.D., Materials Science and Engineering, University of Delaware, 2006

Research Interests: biomaterials, biologically-derived polymers, tissue engineering, drug delivery

Teaching Interests: biomaterials, tissue engineering, biomedical engineering, materials science, polymer physics





John Quaranta, PhD
Assistant Professor
Civil and Environmental Engineering

Education:
B.E., Mechanical Engineering, Youngstown State University, 1984
B.E., Civil Engineering, Youngstown State University, 1988
M.S., Civil Engineering, West Virginia University, 1993
Ph.D., Civil Engineering, West Virginia University, 1996

Research Interests: geotechnical research into improving coal waste impoundment safety through laboratory and field site testing; soil and groundwater remediation of legacy defense waste streams; and soil characterization and environmental forensics of unexploded military ordnance and contaminants.

Teaching Interests: soil mechanics and laboratory testing; foundation engineering; groundwater and seepage; earthwork design; soil properties and behavior; geotechnical field methods; geosynthetics.





Edward M. Sabolsky, PhD

Research Interests: ceramics, fuel cells, chemical sensors, reforming catalyst,
Piezoelectric and dielectric materials, nanomaterials

Teaching Interests: ceramic materials and processing, electrical materials, energy-related materials and systems, crystal chemistry, related single-crystal physical properties
