After a year of construction, the College will celebrate the opening of the new addition to the Engineering Sciences Building on October 16. The College will dedicate the new 28,000-square-foot addition to the Engineering Sciences Building at 11 a.m. in the Atrium of the new facility. The public is invited. "Many people have worked to make this day a reality," Cilento said, "and we are thrilled to be taking this next step in the evolution of our College." The addition houses the new Engineering Learning Center, which provides study spaces, group study rooms, and networked computers, and has tutors on hand. The building will also house some of the College's growing research programs, including offices and labs, as well as a new tiered classroom that seats 120.
The new two-story Atrium provides an attractive, new entryway to the College, a gathering place for students and faculty and additional space for special events, such as the annual Engineering Career Fair. "We are very excited about the growth that has taken place in our College in the past decade," said Gene Cilento, dean of the College, "and about the opportunity this new wing provides for continued growth and excellence in our programs." The addition is located on the southeast corner of the Engineering Sciences Building, adjacent to Parking Lot 40 and Evansdale Drive. The College has seen its student enrollment nearly double in the past decade, rising to a current student population of more than 3,000. WVU's College of Engineering and Mineral Resources is dedicated to the development of engineering practice, science and research. It offers degrees at the bachelor's, master's and doctoral levels, with 11 undergraduate programs accredited by ABET, the recognized accreditor for college and university programs in applied science, computing, engineering and technology. ### For information on any news item from the WVU College of Engineering and Mineral Resources, contact the College Relations Department at 304-293-4821 ext. 2213 or email engineeringwv@mail.wvu.edu. 09/22/2008 |
