Students, Faculty Participate in WV Academy of Science Meeting

Donald Gray, WVU professor of civil and environmental engineering, is president of the organization, which was founded in 1924 and includes scientists from around the state.
Meilin Liu, a civil and environmental engineering graduate student, won first place in the graduate student poster competition at the annual meeting. Liu presented research on "Oil Shale Bioextraction Using Thermophillic Bacteria and Archaea." Her co-authors were Xinchao Wei and Benoit Van Aken, faculty members in civil and environmental engineering.
Oral presentations were made by civil and environmental engineering graduate student Gavin Liu, mechanical and aerospace engineering graduate students Eric Fizer and Paul J. Kreitzer, civil and environmental engineering postdoctoral associate Egemen Ogretim, and civil and environmental engineering professor Donald D. Gray. Oral presentations were also given by Ron Reasor and Matt Williamson of the Lane Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering.
The Academy will hold its 85th annual meeting at WVU in 2010.
