Della-Giustina Speaks on Safety Management in Saudi Arabia
Daniel E. Della-Giustina, professor of safety management in the Department of Industrial and Management Systems Engineering, spoke at the International Symposium for Disaster Management in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in early October 2009.
The symposium was organized by the Saudi Arabian Ministry of the Interior's Civil Defense Department and aimed at promoting the international exchange of ideas of disaster prevention and management. Representatives of more than thirty government agencies and experts from the public and private sectors attended.
Della-Giustina's presentation was entitled, "Disaster Planning: Preparing for the Unexpected," and focused on the importance of studying many different kinds of disasters to learn from them and preparing for future crises through planning, organization, and cooperation.
Della-Giustina said that he enjoyed spending time with several of his former safety management graduate students at the symposium, and the excellent hospitality shown to him by Saudi Arabian officials.
