Sam Ameri was recently reappointed as chair of the Department of Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering at West Virginia University for a five-year term, beginning July 1, 2012.
"Serving as the chair of the Department of Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering is an honor and a pleasure, said Ameri. We are proud to educate professionals for our state, nation and world's oil and gas industry, and to contribute to solving global energy problems. Our success is due to the expertise and dedication of our faculty and staff; Visiting Committee, alumni, donors, and partners; and the WVU and Statler College leadership and administration. Our Department is poised for a period of growth and productivity, and I am honored to continue serving as its chair."
Department chairs are reviewed every five years by the dean of the college. Evaluations include input from faculty members, staff, students and other constituents. Ameri's overall assessment for his performance as department chair was rated very highly by his colleagues.
It is clear that Professor Ameri's colleagues consider him to be a fair, approachable, open and honest person, said Gene Cilento, Glen H. Hiner Dean of the Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources. Students consider him an excellent mentor who listens and addresses their issues and needs in a timely fashion. They fully appreciate his efforts to help them be successful in their professional development. He also works hard to promote effective interactions with all external constituencies. These interactions will be important as he works to engage them, along with faculty, in strategic planning important to the Department, and especially as it pertains to shale gas research and development and work force development.
