What is Engineering?

Webster's defines engineering as the art and the science through which natural forces and materials are used in designing structures, materials, or machines.

We define it as the profession that designs the world.

From roads, bridges, cars, trains, airplanes, chemical plants, gas stations, and power plants, to electronics, appliances, computers, robots, tools, and more, engineers design things that make our lives -- and our world -- a better place to live.

Today, engineers are involved in more and more areas of endeavor, working with health science professionals to design new and better ways to cure disease, collaborating with scientists and policy makers to develop alternative sources of energy, and much more.

If you like math and science; if you love tinkering; if your idea of fun is writing a computer program; if you want to use your talents to make a difference in people's lives . . . you may have a great career ahead of you as an engineer.
