Innovative, ground-breaking research is taking place at the WVU College of Engineering and Mineral Resources. Our goal is to apply the technical expertise and intellectual prowess of our faculty and students to improving the lives of people in West Virginia, the nation, and the world.
Our research program is on a solid growth curve. In recent years, our annual research expenditures have increased by about 6% per year, reaching nearly $27 million in 2006-2007.
In the past three years, we have recruited 15 new faculty members who will become the next leaders in their disciplines, and invested more than $27 million in new and upgraded facilities, including a four-story addition that will open in July 2008.

In addition, we have acquired a great deal of state-of-the-art equipment needed for pursuing new advanced research areas.
Much of today’s research is multidisciplinary, and our faculty work with colleagues from a wide range of disciplines across the University and around the world. In recent years, we have focused on developing new programs in nanoscience and engineering, biometrics and identity technologies, and alternative energy, to name a few, but our research program remains broad-based and our commitment to research excellence across the disciplines is unchanged.
