Innovative, ground-breaking research is taking place at the WVU College of Engineering and Mineral Resources. Our goal is to apply the technical expertise and intellectual prowess of our faculty and students to improving the lives of people in West Virginia, the nation, and the world.
Our research program is on a solid growth curve. In recent years, our annual research expenditures have increased by about 6% per year, reaching nearly $27 million.
In the past five years, we have recruited 20 new faculty members who will become the next leaders in their disciplines, and invested more than $27 million in new and upgraded facilities, including a four-story addition that opened in the summer of 2008.

In addition, we have acquired a great deal of state-of-the-art equipment needed for pursuing new advanced research areas.
Much of today's research is multidisciplinary, and our faculty work with colleagues from a wide range of disciplines across the University and around the world. In recent years, we have focused on developing new programs in nanoscience and engineering, biometrics and identity technologies, advanced infrastructure, and alternative energy, to name a few.
