Computing Facilities

Computer Facilities

State-of-the-art computing facilities and capabilities are vital to engineering and computer science education. We are committed to providing updated computer equipment and systems for our students, faculty, and staff, and invest a great deal of time and resources in meeting this goal.

Computer Classrooms

The College's four main large computer classrooms are equipped with high-resolution, large-screen projection systems and equipped with updated computers at every seat. In addition, we are home to several multimedia presentation classrooms equipped with high-resolution projection systems, document readers, video projectors, stereo sound, wireless microphones, and integrated laptop and Internet connections, all controlled through a touch screen.

Computer Labs

In 2008, the College opened a new Engineering Learning Center for freshmen. This facility houses desktop computers, laptops with wireless Internet, network printers, a high-resolution video projector, and software needed by freshmen for their assignments.

The College maintains several other general-purpose computer labs for student use, loaded with AutoCAD, Matlab, MathCAD, and other software. The undergraduate computer labs are open weekdays from 8 a.m. until 11 p.m., Sundays from noon to 11 p.m., with additional late-night and weekend hours near the end of each semester. A graduate student lab is accessible 24 hours a day with ID-card access. In addition, individual academic departments maintain specialized computer labs to support their programs.

Information Technology Support

The College's Information Technology department provides on-site support for hardware and software issues in College computer labs, classrooms, and offices; maintains a high-speed local area network and wireless network; provides technical support and trouble-shooting; and upgrades and replaces equipment on a regular basis. The Department is housed in newly renovated offices adjacent to a new data center with redundant power supplies, equipment, and air conditioning. All of the College servers are on a three-year replacement schedule.
