VISION
The College of Engineering and Mineral Resources at West Virginia University will be nationally recognized for its technical innovation, creation of knowledge, and ability to foster educational excellence, while continuing its commitment to the economic growth of the state and nation for the benefit of all West Virginians.
MISSION
The mission of the College of Engineering and Mineral Resources is to prepare students to practice their profession and to contribute to the well being of society through academic study, research, extension and service.
College Facts at a Glance
We have 110 full-time faculty members, 2,100 undergraduates and 750 graduate students.
Our seven academic departments offer eleven undergraduate majors and seven dual majors in engineering specialties, computer science, and biometric systems.
A common freshman curriculum, freshman advisors, required study labs, tutoring, mentoring, and special activities for freshmen provide a unique first-year experience.
Undergraduates participate in hands-on projects, research, internships, and cooperative education experiences beginning in the freshman year.
Our undergraduate enrollment has grown by more than six percent annually, nearly doubling the size of the College in the past seven years.
We offer MS and PhD degree programs in nine engineering specialties, plus graduate programs in Industrial Hygiene and Safety Management as well as an off-campus graduate program in software engineering.
Our graduates lead major universities and businesses around the nation and world, and are accepted into prestigious graduate programs. Our alumni are loyal and proud supporters of WVU and of our College, and we could not accomplish all we do without their help.
With nearly $25 million in annual external research expenditures, a significant portion conducted in partnership with industry, we are a major contributor to economic development in our state and region.
Our Department of Extension and Outreach provides on-site technical assistance and training to manufacturers and to the coal mining industry throughout West Virginia and the region.
